Granted I’m not an expert in Children’s Pop-Up books but this book is flat out amazing which is why in 1979 Jan Pienkowski won The Kate Greenway Medal (now known as the Carnegie Medal for Illustration) for “distinguished illustration in a book for children. And rightly so….
Six double page spreads featuring six different rooms in the “Haunted House” each room spookier than the last with amazing detail with sights and frights hidden throughout. Credit also to Jane Walmsley (ass’t Illustrator) and Tor Lokvig (the paper enngineer who figured it all out).
