Bill Peet PAPERBACK Books For Kids

Remember When…

…all things were possible, when animals talked, and elephants could fly.  When words and colorful illustrations came together and took you on adventures within your mind.

Remember the feel of holding the book, reading it by flashlight in bed, dreaming the dreams of childhood.

AND THEN WE GREW UP.

So, it goes.

Bill Peet, pretty much the West Coast version of Dr. Seuss, was a Disney animator, in fact Mr. Peet is the only person to have created all of the storyboards for a Disney animated movie, he accomplished that for two movies: One Hundred & One Dalmatians in 1961 and the Sword in the Stone in 1963.

Peet went on to writing and illustrating Children’s books, of which there are 35.

We have 12 of them…all paperbacks.

Couple thoughts, sometimes you’ll see that a Bill Peet book is described as copyrighted, and assumed published, in 1959 or the 1960’s…and that could be true, but that doesn’t mean the book in your hand is of that age, but there is a way to tell:

The ISBN numbers…first of all if you see an ISBN number on a Peet, or any other book, it means it is only so old.

ISBN numbers started showing up on books in 1970, 10 digits, and they lasted in that form until 2006.

In 2007 ISBN switched to 13 numbers and remain that way to this day.

If you buy a “vintage” book from the 1930’s and you spot on it an ISBN number, unless you believe in time travel, the book isn’t a 1930 issue.

For these books, all have 10-digit ISBN numbers so all were printed between 1970 and 2006…most I think were printed in the 1970’s which still makes them in the 40-50 years old range.

That said they are in remarkable shape, some look unread, I didn’t find any names written in them, or coloring anything like that.  On a 1-10 scale I’d give them a hard 7, with a thumb on the scale maybe an 8.

One book will cost you $12.

How Droofus The Dragon Lost His Head by Bill Peet Paperback. Copyright 1971, 46 pages of full color illustrations. I don’t think this paperback was printed in 1971, maybe, but it is in very nice shape not in keeping with how a 52 year old kids book normally looks. There aren’t any names written in the book nor are there any coloring or markings within either. Ships free via Media Mail within the United States.

Farewell To Shady Glade by Bill Peet copyright 1968 38 pages of full color illustrations. I’m pretty sure this exact book was NOT printed in 1968 but it does show some age to it. On a 1-10 scale with 10 being perfect I’d give it a 7, age wise I’m guessing it could be at least 40 to 45 years old which for a child’s book to be in this shape even after a decade is amazing. Ships free within the United States via Media Mail.
